1. What inspires you to run?
I’m inspired by the journey of the training. Setting goals and trying to achieve those goals. I’m also inspired by the runners I train with, their discipline and dedication is infectious.
2. When did you start running?
I began running in 1995 to impress a girl and show my future father-in-law that I too could run a marathon. 27 years later and I still love running with Amy. My first Marathon was the 1996 Houston Marathon.
3. Favorite post-race meal?
Pizza, pasta, or anything I can get my hands on, and I don’t stop for the rest of the day.
4. Favorite race.
2022 Boston Marathon. For the longest time, I had said that my first Boston Marathon would be my last marathon and I would cut back and concentrate on shorter runs and take it easier. At the expo picking up my race packet, I quickly realized that I need this in my life and I will continue running marathons as long as I’m physically able. At 50, I still do t think I’ve run my fastest 26.2. I will be back in Boston again.
5. Best advice to new runners.
Join a running club, unfortunately, I didn’t join until later in life. The camaraderie and sense of community is the best motivator. Also, don’t set limits on yourself, we are all capable of much more than we realize.
6. One fun fact about you…
I once called an Uber at mile 16 of a marathon. It was hot and I got sick – I had no plans to go another 10 miles. Everyone needs a good DNF story!
